10 Films We Said We Wanted But Didn't Go See

7. X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Blade Runner 2049
Fox

X-Men: Apocalypse may have been a disappointment but a lot of moviegoers felt obligated to see the follow-up, X-Men: Dark Phoenix. It wasn't just the next chapter for the series; it was the culmination of Fox's X-Men before Disney's acquisition of the property. Not only that, we would FINALLY see the "Dark Phoenix" saga done right... supposedly.

Sadly, things went wrong right off the bat. After allegations were made towards director, Bryan Singer, he left the project, leaving Dark Phoenix in the hands of first-time director, Simon Kinberg. Unfortunately, things only got worse. The film required major reshoots including a completely new ending and its release date was changed twice. With rumours circulating that actors were trying to get out of the project and Fox was considering canning the film, it was clear Dark Phoenix would not rise from the ashes. Even though many of these claims turned out to be false, it was enough to turn off the most die-hard fans.

The film wasn't great but nowhere near the dumpster fire that we expected. Sadly, it only managed to earn $252 million, making it the least successful film in the X-Men saga.
