10 Films We Said We Wanted But Didn't Go See

6. Power Rangers

Blade Runner 2049
Lionsgate

During the 1990s, Power Rangers was EVERYWHERE. For a time, it was the highest rated Saturday morning cartoon. It was so popular during Season 2, it aired during prime time.

Of course, just because a property was popular doesn't mean it''ll be commercially successful in theatres. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film franchise was shut down after the last sequel underperformed. Transformers used to be a box office juggernaut but the last two entries brought in far less money than expected.

But Power Rangers was different. It wasn't just popular during the 1990s. It's still popular today. In fact, the Super Sentai adaptation has spawned a staggering 20 spin-offs (which is probably the world record). Because it's self-evident the fanbase still wanted to see more new stories about the Saban property, a big-budget Power Rangers film was greenlit for 2017. The studio were so confident, they plotted out five sequels.

Even though it had little competition upon its release (it was going against CHiPS at the cinema), it only managed to break even. Director, Dean Israelite, believes the PG-13 contributed to the film's lack of success. Whatever the reason, the planned sequels were scrapped.
