10 Films Where Dead Bodies Were Main Characters
2. Warm Bodies (2013)
We’ve seen fantasy and horror and even comedies on this list, but is it possible to give the number two spot to a romance? One based on Romeo and Juliet nonetheless? Well, since we’re here, then the answer is obviously yes.
Warm Bodies is an interesting film tackling a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland from the perspective of a zombie itself. While not unique in this endeavor, it is one of the first times when we see a zombie actually begin to fall in love with a living girl (and not in the stalker-esque manner of Day of the Dead: Bloodline, which was a mess of a movie).
Our protagonist, R (so named because that’s the only sound he can make), first develops interest in Julie after consuming the brains of a man who had a crush on her.
Not exactly Shakespeare, but they get there. Over the course of the film, R begins to transition from completely-dead, frozen-hearted zombie to a more and more lifelike character, and the climax comes when he sacrifices himself to save his beloved Capulet- er, I mean Julie.
This finally jumpstarts his heart and he becomes a human again, leading to a revolution in which other zombies follow his example and also become human by regaining their humanity.
