10 Films Where Dead Bodies Were Main Characters

8. American Werewolf In London (1981)

After Life
Universal

Behind the original 1941 film The Wolf Man, by Universal Pictures, this is perhaps the most famous werewolf movie. The film features friends David and Jack who are traveling through England and, after ignoring a local’s warnings to “steer clear of the moors,” the two find themselves attacked by a werewolf, which promptly wounds David and consumes Jack.

David awakens in a hospital, falls in love with his nurse and moves in with her in a nice romance. Well, until David sees the ghost of Jack’s rotting corpse stalking him around, that is.

Jack warns his friend that he (David) is turning into a werewolf, leading to a series of increasingly strange encounters, culminating in one the most iconic werewolf transformations ever filmed.

Now while this movie is rightly regarded as one of the best werewolf films ever made, one can’t help but enjoy every moment Jack’s increasingly rotten corpse spends beside the titular lycanthrope.

Each appearance shows him more gruesome than the last, and he is the final warning bell signaling David’s doom. His presence was copied in the 1997 sequel, An American Werewolf in Paris, but that ghost was a far more forgettable presence than dear Jack.
