Despite the fact that seeing a cast containing Brad Pitt, Michael Caine, Charlize Theron and Kevin Spacey would usually have you immediately buying tickets, big names do not necessarily a good movie make. But it's a natural reaction to get tempted into the cinema by a good cast list; after all the script, director and plot are all important, but none are as simple a sale to audiences as putting in a few famous actors. That said, how many times have your expectations been raised by a star-studded cast only for the film to be another turkey? Sadly, it's an unfortunate fact of Hollywood that sometimes studios throw money at big names to try and guarantee big bucks, even if it's to the products detriment artistically. Even worse, there are plenty of examples of a studio choosing the most recognisable talent over the best person for the role. The films on this list are those with casts so great it's almost impossible to figure out why they didn't work. In most cases, audiences flocked to see these movies thinking they were about to witness something special, only to come away entirely underwhelmed.
