10 Films With Multiple Different Cuts

1. Blade Runner

At the last count, Blade Runner has nearly seven different cuts of the film, a feat that few other films will ever reach.

Blade Runner's ending was one that the studio disliked. The fact that Rick Deckard and Rachel's stories weren't properly resolved, their want for a totally unnecessary voice-over narration by Harrison Ford and the open-ended and somewhat bleak ending to the film meant that the studio had Scott direct a "happy ending" and add the narration in, much to the director's chagrin, meant having to tap Stanley Kubrick up to incorporate unused footage from The Shining!

The narration, in particular, has annoyed Scott and Ford over the years, both of whom cited its unnecessary place in the film, the fact that it ruined the mystique of the film, explained too much for the audience and just how poor the writing itself was, meant that it was the first thing to go in the later cuts.

While Scott eventually saw his own release of the film titled - Blade Runner: The Director's Cut, hit screens in 1992. This was certainly a lot better than the original cut, however, the film still did not fully meet the director's standards.

Thus lead to Blade Runner: The Final Cut. This seemed to satisfy Scott as he had total freedom over the project. In this cut, we have more of an idea of the main mystery of the film and a bit more fuel to the argument fire of "Is Deckard a replicant or not?", something that both actor and director have disagreed upon for decades.

Two things are for certain with The Final Cut, Ridley Scott is probably happy to see the back of it, and it lead to an absolutely fantastic sequel in Blade Runner 2049, so let's hope there are no more versions of that one!

Ben Maples hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
