10 Final Girls Who Should Return For A Horror Movie Sequel

9. Heather Langenkamp - Wes Craven’s New Nightmare

The Strangers
New Line Cinema

One of the most underrated films in horror maestro Wes Craven’s oeuvre is his eponymous New Nightmare. The finale of the Craven era Elm Street series, this film is often looked upon as a dry run for Scream, if it’s remembered at all.

The delicious premise sees Freddy Krueger (or rather, an Entity taking the form of the scissor-handed menace) enter the real world, having been conjured into existence by Craven’s film series. The killer’s intended victim, naturally, is Heather Lagenkamp, the actor who portrayed final girl Nancy in the original Nightmare.

Lagenkamp is more than serviceable in the first film, but she’s tremendous here portraying herself. To her, Krueger is both the making of her career and possibly the monster that will take her out of this world. She survives, ridding the real world of the dream-dwelling killer, but we know all too well that Freddy always comes back.

We lost Wes Craven in 2015 - what better tribute than seeing one of his original leading ladies battle her way through the ghouls and monsters of his on-screen oeuvre? It'd be more interesting than churning out yet more Screams, that's for sure.
