6. Tie Up All The Loose Ends (Body Heat, 1981)
You cant afford to leave anything hanging, here. No evidence must point your way and if there is any, youll need to have a plan in place to have it removed. In Body Heat, Matty Walker has a prenuptial agreement that gets her none of her husbands wealth in the event of a divorce. Bored and greedy, she sets about having an affair with callow, inept lawyer Ned, a man that she can wrap around her finger. Ultimately, Matty seduces him into committing the crime and believing that the whole thing was his idea. Just like in Dial M For Murder, she plants evidence that points straight to Ned. Its the perfect crime, because its not a frame-job. He literally did the deed. When Ned suspects that hes being done over like a kipper, he goes to confront Matty, who vanishes, faking her own death in an explosion originally meant for him. In jail, Ned tries to convince police as to how convincingly hes been set up but its too perfect, and Matty is long gone.
