10 Foolproof Movie Methods For Murdering Your Spouse

5. Keep Your Story Straight (The Postman Always Rings Twice, 1981)

You can€™t always avoid the attention of investigating forces. Whether it€™s the police, insurance agents or snooping busybodies, you€™ll need to have your story straight at all times. Keep your head, or you€™ll lose it. In The Postman Always Rings Twice, the remake of the old classic, Frank and Cora are having an affair and determine to kill her husband, starting a new life together with his business, a local diner that Cora is determined to run herself. They conspire to fake a car crash, and succeed. Although the police suspect the two of them, there€™s no evidence€ so, in order to cause the lovers to turn on one another, the prosecutor cunningly only charges Cora with the crime. Naturally, the plot succeeds, and Cora makes a full confession implicating Frank - the only reason it doesn€™t make its way in front of the judge is some last minute shenanigans on the part of her lawyer. Frank and Cora nearly break up over the whole mess, but eventually manage to reconcile - Cora stays out of jail, grabbing probation by the skin of her teeth, and the two prepare to start their new life together. Of course, it€™s then that Cora actually dies in her own car crash€ this one a real accident. Had the pair of them continued to keep their stories straight, she probably wouldn€™t even have been on that road.
