10 Foreign Horror Movies You Must Watch For Halloween

9. The Host (2006)

If The Silent House is a little bit too experimental for you, Korean monster feature The Host could be the perfect introduction to horror in world cinema. Even though it may be one of the least scary films on this list, The Host€™s bizarre mix of humor, horror and genuine emotion will appeal to even the most reluctant viewer. The Host takes everything that€™s thrilling about the monster genre and humanizes it with a cast of dysfunctional family members who band together to save their daughter from a mutant creature terrorising the city. Special effects are usually key to the success of a film like this and while the budget is certainly impressive, what actually makes The Host so memorable is the charismatic leads, including Song Kang-ho who continued to find success after in films such as Thirst and Snowpiercer. The Host is world cinema at its most accessible, effectively combining elements of horror and comedy into a movie that is uniquely Korean, but still maintains international appeal. Japan may have Godzilla, but The Host is infinitely more rewarding to watch. Bring on The Host VS Mothra!
