10 Forgotten Movie Franchises That Need To Be Tied Up

1. Ellen Ripley's War Against The Aliens

20th Century Fox20th Century FoxForget the unnecessary quasi-Alien prequel that was Prometheus, or the mindless mash up of the Alien versus Predator series. What we want is a return to the story that started it all; Ellen Ripley's ongoing battle against the alien menace. The franchise almost ended with Alien 3, with Ripley sacrificing herself and the alien queen gestating within her in one final act of defiance. While the film was a massively disappointing entry into the franchise after the terrifying Alien and the action packed Aliens, it was an end. But then Alien Resurrection came along and like the aforementioned Terminator franchise, the series continued unnecessarily without a definitive ending. The last time we saw Ripley, her ship was hurtling towards the Earth and there was the chance the franchise was about to embark on an 'Earth Hive' style story line. Yet seventeen years later, we still have nothing. Calgary Comic and Entertainment ExpoCalgary Comic and Entertainment ExpoYou might think that this is all wishful thinking, a chance to move past the mistakes of the third and fourth films and recapture the magic of Aliens. However Sigourney Weaver herself has expressed interest in returning to the franchise. First she reunited with her fellow cast mates from Aliens at the Comic and Entertainment Expo in Calgary in May and a month later she dropped this little tidbit.
"I do feel like there is more story to tell. € I feel a longing from fans for the story to be finished. I could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story."
If that doesn't fill you with excitement for Alien 5, I don't know what will. We€™ll have an older, bitter Ellen Ripley fighting to save humanity from the alien menace. All we need now is a director/writer ready to take on that task. If Ridley Scott is focused on his Alien prequels, what about James Cameron with an Aliens sequel? Except of course he has Avatar 2, 3 and 4 on his plate. To be honest, as long as it's anyone bar Michael Bay, we'll be happy! What would your hopes for an alien sequel be? Do you want more Narnia films or didn't they have enough magic to keep you interested? Is another Indiana Jones sequel wanted after The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull? Will Hellboy 3 ever get made?
