10 Formerly Great Film Roles That Are Horribly Awkward Today
2. Lance Armstrong Dodgeball
He beat three different types of Cancer and went on to win the Tour De France seven times, he became a national hero and is now hated by almost everyone after admitting he used performance enhancing drugs to win, all while hounding the sceptics through blackmail and ostracising anyone who dared disagree with him. Basically, he cheated in a BIG way. The whole 'be honest with yourself, don't quit on your dream' vibe from his cameo in comedy 'Dodgeball' kind of becomes redundant once you know this information, swiftly rendering his scene very awkward indeed. Knowing this moment is coming and that it's integral to the films narrative, it's seemingly impossible for the film makers to cut around it and is constantly in the back of your mind on a re-watch. It could be seen as ironically funny if it was suitable to the film's style of comedy, but with the benefit of our good friend, Captain Hindsight, it's impossible to see this cameo as anything but an embarrassment. Lance Armstrong has now managed to turn a funny moment into an awkward one, with his final lines to hero Peter topping it all off; 'Good luck to you, I am sure this decision won't haunt you forever.' And best of luck to you, Lance, I am sure your decisions won't either.
