10 Found Footage Movies That Are Actually Worth Your Time
4. V/H/S/2
Because the often-daft conceit of the found footage gimmick can be a hard pill to swallow for an entire feature-length movie, it makes sense that someone finally decided to dice it up into bite size pieces for an anthology. The original V/H/S was a breath of fresh air for horror fans, as it turned the genre's glaring weakness - the longer you focus on one frightening thing, the less frightening that thing becomes - into a major strength.
The sequel executed this concept to near-perfection and features several stand-out shorts from some of the genre's most innovative directors. Most importantly, the found footage implementation comes off much more effectively here than in the original.
And although not all of the short films featured in V/H/S/2 are soil-your-pants-twice scary, the effects are drastically improved (and more realistic), the story ideas are more varied, and the presentation is more creative this time around.
The sequel is worth watching for horror fans if only for the segment entitled Save Haven, a smartly-written story about an Indonesian cult that was directed by Gareth Evans, the man responsible for The Raid films. It's as gripping and heart-stoppingly terrifying as any horror movie from the last two decades.
