10 Franchises That Should've Quit After Two Films

1. Alien

Terminator Salvation T-800
Fox

Ridley Scott's Alien is a perfect science fiction horror, James Cameron's Aliens is an incredible sci-fi action film but David Fincher's Alien 3 is a forgettable mess.

Fincher dropping the ball with the franchise only marked the beginning of a slow and agonising death for the Xenomorph series which has arguably not recovered from this failure since. While Sigourney Weaver's final entry in the series Alien Resurrection was a slight improvement on Alien 3 it would only get worse from there on out.

Crossing over the Alien series with the Predator franchise proved to be a disaster for both intellectual properties with critics ultimately giving Alien vs. Predator 21% on Rotten Tomatoes and its sequel Alien vs. Predator: Requiem a pathetic 12%.

Ridley Scott's prequel films may have restored some interest in the franchise with some thought-provoking concepts explored but nothing has touched the original two masterpieces from Scott and Cameron.

THE OFFENDING SEQUEL(S) ROTTEN TOMATOES SCORE: Alien 3 - 43%, Alien Resurrection - 55%, Alien vs. Predator - 21%, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem - 12%, Prometheus - 73%, Alien: Covenant - 66%

An avid cinephile, love Trainspotting (the film, not the hobby), like watching bad films ironically (The Room, Cats) and hate my over-reliance on brackets (they’re handy for a quick aside though).
