3. Coming To America (1988)
Eddie Murphy was at peak popularity in 1988 when one of his most notable comedies, Coming to America, was released.
A film about an African prince vying to find love in America could have easily missed the mark, if it was not for the memorable performances and screenplay that have ensured that the film has become one of the biggest comedies of the decade. Murphy stars as Prince Akeem Joffer who, alongside his friend Semmi, portrayed by Asenso Hall, travel to of all places Queens, New York, to find the future king his future Queen.
Supported by an exceptional cast, including John Amos and James Earl Jones, the film would be a huge box office hit, earning an estimated $288 million worldwide.
Coming to America would only further establish Murphy as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Murphy and Hall recently teamed up with Amazon to produce a sequel to comedy classic. Unfortunately, the sequel did not live up to the expectations of fans and it is probably best to just re-watch the original.
