You'd be forgiven for forgetting that Surrogates even existed, given that the $80m sci-fi from Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow came and went from theaters with little fanfare back in 2009, and only made a little over $120m at the box office.

While the original comic book was set in 2054, the big screen adaptation took place in the not-too-distant future of 2017 and while the titular technology still doesn't exist yet, in some ways it already plays a huge part in our lives. The premise hinges on people sitting on their a*ses all day and letting lifelike androids carry out their everyday business while they remain safely in the comfort of their own homes.

Pretty much everything is available for online delivery these days, meaning that if you have no inclination to go outside then you really don't have to, and you'll still be able to enjoy the full range of comforts from within your own four walls. That being said, everybody needs a bit of fresh air at least every now and again even if they could just send an idealized robot version of themselves out to pick up the bread and milk.
