10 Gaping Plot-Holes Hollywood Thought You'd Miss

2. What Time Period Constitutes "After Midnight"? (Gremlins)

One of the basic rules of taking care of a Mogawi is to make sure you don't feed them after midnight, but this raises a few question; firstly, for how long after midnight? Does this just mean not to feed the Mogwai from midnight until they go to sleep and wake up the next day? When does this "after midnight" rule expire? And how would this relate to time zones? What if I stand on a time zone border with Gizmo and a Mars bar; he can eat it on one side, but can't an inch the other? And what about daylight savings time? Joe Dante could have saved himself (and us) a lot of trouble if he just said that they can't be fed between midnight and 6am or something similar. We wouldn't need to ask questions (or at least not as many), and the rules would seem more water-tight without actually altering the narrative in any way. Given how this leap in logic doesn't affect the plot (and of course, the sheer awesomeness that is Gremlins), it's thankfully easy to let this one go.
