10 Geekiest DVD Commentaries Every Film Fan Must Listen To

3. Michael J. Nelson (Mystery Science Theatre) - Plan 9 From Outer Space

Plan 9 From Outer Space

In case you're not familiar with Mystery Science Theatre 3000, the TV show essentially provided satirical commentaries on terrible movies that were no longer copyrighted, meaning the show could be made for peanuts.

The aesthetic consisted of little more than the movie filling up the screen, with the silhouettes of the commentators taking up a small portion at the bottom (as though they are in the cinema watching it). The commentary for Ed Wood's horrendous Plan 9 from Outer Space, however, was released on RiffTrax as a downloadable audio file you could listen to while watching your own copy of the film, so it's a bit of a cheat, but absolutely deserves its place on this list.

The show's legendary comedianMichael J. Nelson rips the movie to shreds in just the same style as he would have on the TV show, drawing attention to the overall tawdry quality of the film, though to his credit, also making it clear that the film is one of the most entertaining awful films ever made.
