10 Genius Moments In Otherwise Irredeemable Films

7. The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard - Will Ferrell Plummets To Earth Surrounded By Dildos

From afar, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard seemed to have all the elements necessary to make a pretty decent comedy. The director, Neal Brennan, was the co-creator of Chapelle's Show, Jeremy Piven got to be the smarmiest version of himself (a used car salesman/guru), and the supporting cast was a wonderfully ragtag group of comic actors.

But for some reason it just never clicked together.

You know those comedies that use up all of their good jokes in the trailer? Well, The Goods didn't have enough good jokes to pad out a 2-minute teaser, and the only gut-busting moment in the entire 90 minute runtime was too adult to include.

That moment involved Will Ferrell, a skydiving stunt gone awry, and an aggressively pursuant sex toy. Describing it in any greater detail would kill the joke, so I recommend watching the clip.

The concept is the standard level of over-the-top immaturity we expect from Ferrell, but the execution was a thing of beauty. This brilliant bit of comedy apparently taken from a Mel Brooks fever dream stuck out like a nudist at a funeral. In a good way.
