10 Genius Moments In Otherwise Irredeemable Films

6. Blues Brothers 2000 - The Most Legendary Supergroup Of All Time

The problem with trying to create a sequel to an iconic movie nearly 20 years later is that it's almost impossible not to view it as a desperate cash grab. It gets even harder to stomach a "resurrection" of this sort when someone as integral to the original movie as John Belushi was to the first Blues Brothers is no longer around to imbue it with the necessary gravitas.

But a little thing like death (or shame) could never keep Dan Aykroyd from purging his past successes for a few more minutes in the public eye. And so Blues Brothers 2000 was created.

Even as a simple nostalgia piece, BB2000 is grim.

It does, however, manage to surpass the original film by the sheer volume of blues legends it incorporates into the film's final act. Facing off against The Blues Brothers in the climactic battle of the bands is The Louisiana Gator Boys, a supergroup comprised of pretty much every blues legend still breathing at the time, including: B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Eric Clapton, Isaac Hayes, Lou Rawls, Jimmie Vaughan, Steve Winwood, and Dr. John.

The resulting musical performances are pure dynamite, acting as a bizarre time capsule of the time Akyroyd used his blues geek credentials to trick some of the greatest musicians of all time into playing together on film.
