10 Genuinely Awesome Scenes In Otherwise Awful Movies

9. Superman Returns - Saving The Plane

Good lord, what a mess this this film was. This was a colossal screw up, after nearly twenty years there was finally a new Superman film and following the successful reboot of Batman the year earlier it seemed that DC had the chance to start something special. Of course we now know that they threw it away. For some ungodly reason somebody decided that it would be a good idea to only semi-reboot the franchise, Brandon Routh was always going to struggle with replacing Christopher Reeve but this way the poor guy was supposed to be literally the same Clark Kent. He never stood a chance. There was however one scene in which the years between the films was put to good use; in the time since Reeves last outing in The Quest for Peace there had been a cartoon and three live action TV series based on the character, but this was the chance to show how far special effect had come in two decades. We could finally get to see Superman be super. For some reason that doesn€™t require much explanation Superman finds himself chasing a crashing plane, with Lois Lane included among the passengers. This is his first public appearance in several years and what a way to let everyone know that he is back. Having helped get the attached shuttle into space, Clark makes the attempt to rescue the plane. He fails to get it under control whilst it was in the air so he chases it down and catches it inside a packed baseball stadium. It was a great moment, we saw him perform a fantastic feat of strength and heroism in front of the adoring public and for one shining moment he was Superman. He even managed to get in the classic €œstatistically speaking€ line. Unfortunately this was without doubt the highpoint of the movie, as Superman proceeded to punch nothing for the rest of the painfully long running time. Let€™s not even get into the whole super kid debacle.
