10 Genuinely Awesome Scenes In Otherwise Awful Movies

8. Die Another Day - Credit Sequence

Die-another-day-drowning-credits

When the time came to put this list together I decided that I wanted to have a James Bond entry, I thought about a number of scenes that I could use but in the end I decided to go with my first instinct. There is no Bond movie that I hate more than this and yet no other credit sequence got me as excited for the film as this one. I like many people was pumped up and more than ready to see this film back in 2002. I avoided learning much about its plot before I entered the cinema, so when the credits hit I thought I was about to see a far different movie than the overblown CG fest that it ended up being. Of course I know that many people would see this and immediately state that the Madonna track put them of it completely, although I would never have it on my iPod it think it fits the scene perfectly. I understand that it€™s not everybody€™s cup of tea but it works for me. The sequence shows Bond being tortured by North Korean soldiers having been captured in the pre-credits scene. Over the course of the credits we see 007 beaten and drowned as the Koreans attempt to break him. It appears that we are seeing the deconstruction of the hero right at the beginning of the film and thus we are given the impression that he will spend the rest of it attempting to put himself back together. Of course we all know that did not happen, once Bond is out of captivity he spends the rest of the movie hanging around with Halle Berry and driving invisible cars. As much as I enjoy the credits, the truth is no other entry on this list disappoints me more, It is in complete contrast with the movie we are given. Following a brief scene with M in which Bond has his 00 status revoked, the film conforms to the bloated special effects mess that the Brosnan films were. It could have been so much more.
