10 Giant Movie Myths (And The Truth Behind Them)

5. Stanley Kubrick Faked The Moon Landings

The Myth: We've all heard the conspiracy theory that the Apollo 11 landings on the Moon were completely fabricated and that there was no shuttle launch of expedition. What many people probably haven't heard though, is that Stanley Kubrick was allegedly the man behind the purportedly fabricated footage of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin being the first humans to step on Luna. The myth exploded in popularity when Jay Weidner released a documentary (Room 237) claiming that Kubrick's The Shining was a sly apology from the director for his role in the hoax. The Truth: There's little to suggest the myth is even remotely based on fact, and the only evidence to support the claim is purely circumstantial. The above picture that shows The Shining's Danny wearing an Apollo 11 sweater is supposed to be part of Kubrick's hidden apology, but it's far more likely that the sweater was supposed to be a cheeky jibe at all the conspiracy theorists believing the fake landings story to be true.
