10 Giant Movie Myths (And The Truth Behind Them)

4. Back To The Future II Correctly Predicted The Future

The Myth: That damned sports almanac - it brought Marty nothing but trouble in Back To The Future II. It also served as the foundation of a supposed, real-life sports result in 1997: that a Florida-based team would win the Baseball World Series. The Miami Marlins, despite not existing at the time of Back To The Future II's release, did indeed win the Baseball World Series in 1997, which in turn set the internet alight with claims that old Biff's claim in the film was actually true. The Truth: Again, the myth is entirely false. Yes, Biff's older self did in fact claim that a team would win the World Series in 1997, but the most important part - that a Florida-based team would win it - is never actually mentioned in the film. Don't get us wrong, we'd love to live in a world where all the predictions of the Back To The Future films came true (hoverboards!), but sadly, this myth definitely isn't one to indicate series' factuality.
