10 Giant Movie Plot Holes That Everyone Chooses To Ignore
1. The Lazy Empire Can't Be Bothered To Kill Droids - Star Wars
Looking forward to Rogue One and The Force Awakens? Hate the Star Wars prequels? Love Return Of The Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back? Sorry to say it, but none of those should ever have even existed for you to alternately enjoy/despise.
In A New Hope, R2-D2 is given the Death Star battle plans that will go on to prove instrumental in a victory for the Rebels and beginning the Empire's downfall. Escaping invading Imperial forces, R2 and companion C-3PO jettison from a rebel ship aboard an escape pod - an escape pod which Empire gunners spot, and decide not to fire upon (as Family Guy's Star Wars parody Blue Harvest puts it: "What, are we paying by the laser now?").
It's not certain why George Lucas even showed this short scene with the gunners, as audiences are confronted with the notion that, yes, the Empire did have an opportunity to destroy the droids, but bafflingly decided not to take action. Who on Earth's going to complain though? It's Star Wars for God's sake.
