10 Giant Movie Plot Holes That Everyone Chooses To Ignore

2. The Eagles Could Have Saved Everyone A Lot Of Hassle - The Lord Of The Rings

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, one of the ultimate cinematic experiences, is really one long film about a journey. Sure, there are the great battles and romances along the way, but the over-arcing plot involves one young hobbit and his companion travelling from their home to a mountain hundreds of miles away, and doing it at all costs. Really, nothing else matters - you could strip almost every other character away and be left with the same perilous journey involving just these two characters.

Which is why it's so troubling to learn that the pair could have cut short their entire walk by using one of those giant eagles that nonchalantly swoop in to save them at the end of the film. Using the eagles to drop the ring into Mount Doom would have saved countless lives, and Frodo and Sam a lot of bother (look at them - they're absolutely knackered at the end of Return Of The King).

But then a glorious nine-hour epic would have been over in minutes, so it's probably best just to think up all the excuses the eagles might have had for showing up so late.
