10 Giant Movie Plot Holes That Everyone Chooses To Ignore

6. The Shawshank Redemption - The Magic Poster

Warden Norton doesn't believe it - long-term prisoner Andy Dufresne has somehow managed to disappear from his jail cell over night. Norton is predictably angry (nobody needs a day at work like this), so he begins throwing Andy's rock sculptures around the room, eventually hitting a poster of Raquel Welch - which the stone flies through, revealing a tunnel in the wall through which Andy dug his way to freedom.

It's a great piece of misdirection by Andy, who rightly thinks the prison staff wouldn't possibly assume one of the prisoners could have been able to firmly tape a poster over the giant hole-in-the-wall behind him as he escaped to victory. And the guards are right not to think that of him, because such a move is probably impossible.

Andy's escape relies on this poster staying in place - if it hadn't, one of the guards would have likely noticed while on duty, sounded the alarm, and begun the process of finding Dufresne much quicker than in reality. But then there wouldn't have been a happy ending, and ain't no one gonna let this plot hole got in the way of their joy after two hours of incarcerated misery.
