10 Ginormous Movie Franchises That Should Quit While They're Ahead

9. Men In Black

Men-in-Black-3Woah, what's this ginormous franchise about, then?Men In Black is a movie franchise that asks the question: what happens when you team a hip, cool black guy with an uptight, by-the-book white guy, and then there are aliens, too? The first movie hit theatres in the late '90s, and made a moderate impression on society in its attempt to answer that question - the banter, courtesy of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (you can work out which "guy" they each play) was clever and funny, the SFX impressive. Sequels followed: one bad, and then one good. Smith and Jones reprised their roles in both of 'em. And it should quit? Why?Men In Black III should have been something of a disaster - it was delayed, there was talk of production problems, and they decided to go with a time travel plot, which didn't feel all that Men In Black at all. Despite these qualms, though, the movie was a solid effort - nothing special, of course, but it did successfully manage to wash the putrid taste left by Men In Black II out of our mouths. So now everyone thinks Men In Black is pretty cool again, and talks of a further sequel have emerged. Bad idea. The filmmakers pushed their luck with a sequel nobody wanted with the third installment and got lucky, so now it's time to leave this one where it is. Forever.
