10 Gloriously Schlocky 1950s B Movies You Have To See

4. Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman

A lot of people are vaguely familiar with Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman based just on the title, but it isn't appreciated often enough just how ridiculous this movie is. From 1958, the movie stars Allison Hayes as a woman who encounters some sort of alien creature while driving late at night. When she returns home, nobody believes her because apparently she's a huge alcoholic and generally insane.

In a second encounter with the alien, Nancy is scratched, and that for some reason turns her into a giant. This is a late '50s movie, so of course the explanation had to be that she was exposed to radiation. Seriously, try to find a '50s monster movie that doesn't have anything to do with radiation. While Nancy is unconscious, all you can see is her hand, and the effect is just dreadful. They clearly just built a giant foam prop of her hand, and there's not a second where it doesn't look like something out of a really cheap play.

It's only a little over an hour long, and considering the title, there isn't much of an attack: she only makes it into public at the very end, and only one person actually dies. Still, even though there isn't much Godzilla-style destruction, the over-acting and bad special effects were enough to make it into a cult classic.
