10 Good Films With Bad Titles

9. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Birds of Prey Harley Quinn
Sony Pictures Releasing

After finally regaining the rights to Spider-Man from Sony, Marvel Studios' first solo outing for the character is a blast. Tom Holland is an excellent Peter Parker, who carves out his own little pocket of the MCU. His supporting cast, including Michael Keaton's Vulture, Zendaya's MJ, and Jacob Batalon's Ned, are pitch perfect, and Holland's chemistry with his superhero mentor, Tony Stark, is heartbreakingly good.

However, calling the film "Homecoming" calls attention to the shaky business between Marvel and Sony, rather than to the film itself. It emphasizes to audiences that Spider-Man is "back," as if Sony had held him hostage since Sam Raimi's early 2000s trilogy. Marvel come across as bad sports with this title, and something along the lines of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man would have done more to draw attention to the man himself rather than his intellectual property history.
