The electric House of Blue Leaves sequence in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Volume 1 is without a doubt the highlight of the movie, an obscene gore-fest that sees The Bride (Uma Thurman) cut down O-Ren Ishii's (Lucy Liu) entire Crazy-88 squad (yes, there's 88 of them) along with the crazy Gogo Yubari and also violently dismembering O-Ren's lawyer Sofie Fatale for good measure. The final swordfight between The Bride and O-Ren is brief, and ends with a shot of blood splattering across the snowy courtyard, before a bloody chunk of flesh attached to a mass of hair flies through the air. We cut to O-Ren, who is missing the top of her head, with the brain duly exposed, as she utters her final words, "That really was a Hattori Hanzo sword", and collapses to the ground, dead. Satisfaction Rating: 7/10. After The Bride has to fight her way through such absurd odds, it was truly rewarding to see her take down another member of her kill list. The fight itself may have been surprisingly short, but that gory money shot and the stinging final line make it great fun to watch.
