10 Graphic Novels MCU Fans Must Read

2. Civil War

Guardians Comic Thumb
Marvel Comics

While both the film and comic set-ups for Marvel's 'who would win in a fight between...' story arcs may seem a bit contrived, the rest of either tale certainly is not. Despite sharing elements with the film adaptation, the original Civil War is a more complex, and often darker, version of the narrative.

For example, the book starts off with a young team of superheroes, the New Warriors, attempting take down a group of villains, and in doing so destroying a school and the residential area around it, creating a foundation and setting the tone for the rest of the graphic novel. The book is also written by the brilliant Mark Millar, the man who has gone on to create the wonderful Millarworld series, which includes both Kick Ass and Wanted.

Although those who are fans of Iron Man may not enjoy the depiction of the character in this book, and the 'hero vs hero' thing may just seem like a way to increase sales, it's an essential read for Marvel fans, with the tale having altered the landscape of Marvel's comics for a good decade at least.
