10 Great 21st Century Sci-Fi Films That Bombed At The Box Office

7. Children Of Men

Children Of Men
Universal

Despite easily being one of the best films of 2006 with an incredibly bleak yet hopeful look at humanity, Children of Men manages to be the only Alfonso Cuarón film that failed to make back its money at the box office.

Whether it was the weighty topics of worldwide infertility and global depression which failed to land with an audience or its lack of star power, the film went largely unseen by most. Despite this critics were falling over themselves to put the film on their top 10 lists and it was even nominated for three Oscars including Best Screenplay.

Thankfully, audiences have since woken up to the genius of this timeless story and it is now widely considered one of the greatest examples of dystopian sci-fi.
