10 Great 21st Century Sci-Fi Films That Bombed At The Box Office

A small cerebral Australian sci-fi film starring Ethan Hawke never had box office hit written over it but no one could have predicted it would bomb the hardest out of all the films on this list making a measly $5 million at the box office.

Part of the problem with the film may have been the difficulty to market this film without giving away all the twists and turns the story takes you on. Hawke likewise is not the biggest box office star and while he proves to be a solid lead it is very much a film led by the then unknown Sarah Snooke who would later be cast as Shiv in HBO's incredible Succession.

While this is probably the most obscure film on the list, it is a masterclass in storytelling and will hopefully be recognised as such in the future.

BUDGET: $9 million

BOX OFFICE: $5.4 million
