10 Great 21st Century Sci-Fi Films That Bombed At The Box Office

3. Ad Astra

Children Of Men
Disney

Brad Pitt's soul searching sci-fi film was mis-sold to audiences as an action adventure when it was actually a thought-provoking movie leading to audiences quickly losing interest despite Pitt's natural charisma.

James Gray, Ad Astra's director, has a history of making critically acclaimed films which score poorly with audiences and manage to flop at the box office, a feat he also accomplished with The Lost City of Z.

While there is no denying that Pitt delivered a sterling performance, arguably better than his fairly one note Oscar-winning performance in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, audiences were unimpressed with this slow burn sci-fi movie.
