7. Cate Blanchett As Irina Spalko In Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
Like the other great George Lucas franchise, the Indiana Jones series had a good run in its first 3 films and there was no real need for the story to continue. After one had seen Sean Connery, John Rhys-Davies, Denholm Elliot and Harrison Ford ride off into the sunset at the end of the Last Crusade, one couldn't help but feel that it was a great ending for the series. Unfortunately, while Hollywood often writes Hollywood endings, they often don't come true for Hollywood. While there is some interesting aspects to Crystal Skull- the beginning at Roswell is a nice touch (why an archaeologist is needed is a little sketchy, but anyway...)- the comedy is dull and lifeless and the action is too CGI orientated- something that is curiously un-Spielbergy (this was the guy who made dinosaurs come to life remember by using animatronics). And as for Shia LaBoeuf...just why? It must be said that villians in a Indiana Jones film have never really grabbed the spotlight in the same way as say, the Joker does in Batman, so Blanchett can hardly be blamed for how this movie crashed and burned. Still, for a great actress, this was a bad movie.
