8. Christian Bale As John Connor In Terminator: Salvation
Terminator: Salvation was a massive misfire on so many levels it wasn't funny. Why, for example, did they suddenly re-imagine the Terminators from the awesome implacable machines of James Cameron's vision for a neutered bunch of robots that seemed to have little in the way of artificial intelligence? For most of the movie I swear the Terminator's favourite mode of attack was throwing someone against a wall- unlike the brutal fatalities dealt out by the Terminators in the first two movies. Furthermore, while the first two movies had an amazing aesthetic there is only so much dust you can take on a screen before you want to see something interesting. In this you would expect Bale to be one of the saving graces of the film, but unfortunately he is actually the opposite. Bale doesn't really make you feel interested or sympathetic in Connor's plight. The real heart of the film is actually Sam Worthington's Marcus Wright, who actually does a far better job at being sympathetic by not trying to be incredibly broody all the time. Still, the role got everyone a good couple of minutes of Bale ranting...
