6. Happiness (1988)
Todd Solondzs Happiness is the story of an extremely dysfunctional family. Like other films on this list the key to the film is what is hidden behind the all-American exterior, the paedophilic husband is the obvious anti-love message here but every other character is also damaged. In fact, the only real happiness is 11-year old Billy finding out the wonders of going solo when he finally manages to ejaculate at the end of the film.
Why is it anti-love? Where to start with this one? Your parents and siblings might be hopelessly in love but its okay because you have broken the mould. Youre happily married. To a paedophile. Yeah, love sucks.
Most anti-love moment? From the get-go Happiness is an anti-love tirade, but the opening scene where Andy (Jon Lovitz) dumps Joy (Jane Adams) sets the rest of the film up: Im champagne and youre sh*t. Until the day you die. You, not me, will always be sh*t."
