10 Great Asian Horror Movies You Probably Haven't Seen
5. Shutter
When it comes to Asian horror, the likes of Ringu, Ju-on, and Kairo usually nab a place in the top five. While they each deserve it in their own right, there is one that doesn't get mentioned nearly as much as it should.
Shutter follows a photographer and his girlfriend who find themselves pursued by a malicious spirit after a hit and run. It's fairly standard in the Asian horror world when it comes to plot, but there is far more to this one than meets the eye.
The movie takes some time to ramp up, though once it does you'll find yourself wanting to hide behind the couch. This is especially true when the third act hits, which takes the film from scary to unrelentingly nerve-wracking.
Creepy ghost girls aside, what makes this one so scary is how it takes the everyday action of picture taking and twists it into something absolutely horrifying. After finishing Shutter, you may find yourself thinking twice before taking a selfie as you never know what might be in the frame along with you.
