6. Noroi: The Curse

Have you ever watched something that caused your skin to crawl every frame, making you look behind yourself to make sure there isn't an unwelcomed visitor in the room with you? That's what Noroi: The Curse does.

The film follows a documentary filmmaker as he attempts to unravel the mystery of an ancient demon. As far as smart ideas go, that might just be right at the bottom of the barrel.

Much of the subject matter in the movie is undeniably messed up, and the pacing could only be described as a third degree slow burn. Though neither of those things is what makes it so unnerving.

It seems like a vast majority of supernatural horror films from Japan have to do with curses. This one stand out however because of its unapologetically fatalistic outlook. In J-horror, if you are cursed or messing around with curses, there is no escaping your fate. You will die or wish you did. Noroi is possibly the best example of this because from the very beginning you know where it's going, and not for a moment does the movie let you forget it.

Don't play around with curses kids, nothing good ever comes from it.
