10 Great Blockbusters Held Back By A Terrible Lead Performance
7. Jennifer Lawrence - X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Jennifer Lawrence only received fifth billing for her first outing as Mystique in X-Men: First Class, but the following year she scooped Best Actress at the Academy Awards for Silver Linings Playbook while also headlining the massively successful first installment in The Hunger Games series, and now that she was firmly established as one of the world's biggest movie stars she appeared to lose any interest in being a part of Fox's mutant franchise.
Her newfound status at the top of the A-list saw her given a much more prominent role in sequel Days of Future Past, but the increased amount of screentime only made it abundantly clear that she couldn't be bothered anymore. The prequel/sequel hybrid remains one of the finest X-Men movies, but anytime Lawrence appears you can almost feel the resignation and sense of contractual obligation in every line of dialogue.
Her performances got worse in the subsequent Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, but Days of Future Past was the first time that the studio made it clear they were pushing their biggest name to the forefront of the series, even though she clearly didn't want to be there in the first place.
