10 Great British Sci-Fi Movies You've Probably Never Seen

6. Lifeforce

Lifeforce 1985
TriStar Pictures

Lifeforce is an experience like no other, and the wildness of this ride can be summed up by the original title of the novel it's based on, The Space Vampires. If that doesn't give it away, then nothing will. It's full of charm, as the practical effects are very impressive, and the concept of alien vampires is deliciously pulpy.

The movie's narrative starts with a space shuttle that discovers a ship wreckage. Inside they find an overwhelming assortment of deceased bats and three bodies in suspended animation. After taking them on board, the shuttle loses contact with Earth, and a rescue mission brings the discovered bodies down to London, where they go on a rampage, turning the civilians into vampires.

The film is a masterpiece of cinema by no means, but it's a gratifying experience that will give you a fun time if you're looking for some Sci-Fi schlock. Where else are you going to find a movie about vampires in space?

It's an incredibly humorous title, as the absurd premise is juxtaposed by the extreme severity of the characters and presentation, giving it an easy b-movie charm, which led to it becoming a cult classic.
