10 Great British Sci-Fi Movies You've Probably Never Seen
7. FAQ About Time Travel
This entire movie seemed to be an attempt to capitalise on the popularity of flicks like Shaun of the Dead, which took basic British identity and turned it into a fantasy adventure. While it does hold true that the film is derivative of better projects, that doesn't make it any less fun to watch.
It centres on a trio of losers who drink their solaces away in a pub. After one of the leads encounters a woman claiming to be a time-traveller, they become engrossed in a convoluted mess as they attempt to survive an assassination plot from the future, all the while digging their chaotic time loop/paradox hole deeper and deeper.
The blend of casual pub culture and complex science fiction tropes lends the film an entertaining combination of simplicity and absurdity. As the film progresses and everything becomes totally out of whack, you feel safe in the familiar pub environment, keeping the flick somewhat grounded.
It's also genuinely personal despite the enormous stakes, and that comes down to the minimal cast, filled up with solid actors like Chris O'Dowd and Anna Farris. Their entertaining presences are easily likeable, even if they aren't giving their career-best performances here.
