10 Great (But Unexpected) Uses Of Music In Movies

1. Afternoon Delight (Anchorman)

2004's comedy classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy has a whole host of memorable scenes that cause rapturous belly laughs upon the mere thought of them, but one scene stands tall above them all. When Ron (Will Ferrell) has finally gained the sexual conquest he had desired for the duration of the movie - fellow newsreader Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) - he can't help but hide his delight and announces that he has "done the deed" very loudly to his work colleagues. He also declares that, following the encounter, the two of them are in love. This prompts his colleagues Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Champ Kind (David Koechner) and Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) to ask Ron exactly what love is, as none of them have experienced it before. This, in turn, prompts Ron to spontaneously burst out in to song - singing the Starland Vocal Band cheesy classic Afternoon Delight. His colleagues join in with the song to give a harmonic performance that has become often imitated by those who have watched the movie, as it is both humorous and brilliant at the same time (and, of course, highly unexpected from an otherwise musical performance-free movie). And that rounds off our list! What other great (but unexpected) examples of music in movies can you think of? Please feel free to comment below.
