10 Great Comedy Sidekicks Who Completely Stole The Movie

Aladdin Genie Heroes may get the girl, but sidekicks can win the audience's heart. Sometimes we get bored of the main character - after all, they're usually supposed to be all noble and serious, which can get a little tiring after a while. In contrast, their supporting characters are allowed to let down their hair, in a way, and make us laugh. When done right, comedy sidekicks can be much more memorable than the actual protagonist. A gifted actor playing a well written supporting character can easily make up for a bland leading man. Yet they're never the ones who get the credit. How many character actors can you think of that rake in the big bucks? The ones on this list, with a combination of skill and good writing, managed to shine in films that weren't really even supposed to be about them. And for that, we salute them.

10. Jeff Spicoli - Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Fast Times Sean Penn If you remember seeing this movie back in the day, you might be shocked at the fact that judging by the cover, Sean Penn was the lead of the film. It's a testament to the certain je ne sais quoi that the stoned surfer dude had...even though he was a relatively minor character in the grand scheme of things, he was the one who walked away a star. There's something impossible to dislike about a kid who has a pizza delivered in the middle of his history class. He's just so good-naturedly oblivious to his surroundings, and his likeable performance really got him noticed as a young actor. Although in my opinion this film is a classic, at the end of the day, most people remember two things: Phoebe Cates climbing out of the pool and Jeff Spicoli.
