10 Great Comic Book Movie Castings Fans Couldn't Handle
3. Joseph Gilgun - Gambit
Oh how long have we all been collectively crying out to see Gambit on the big screen? Or the small screen for that matter? Granted, Taylor Kitsch did an...okay job, we guess, in the abomination that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that was hardly noteworthy. And then there was the proposed solo Gambit movie that got abandoned after years in development hell. A movie that was supposed to star Channing Tatum in the lead role. And can we just be the first to say...uh, no.
Who could possibly fill the shoes of the swaggering, arrogant, charismatic ne'er do well? We'd propose none other than Joseph Gilgun. Pretty much all of Gilgun's filmography is crammed full of nothing but charming, rakish scamps. His big break came in the form of Shane Meadows' This Is England where he played the kindhearted Woody, but we'd bet that most of you know him as Preacher's Cassidy.
Not only did the role of Cassidy showcase him as loudmouthed, silver tongued and effortlessly charming, but it also goes to show that Gilgun is no stranger to the odd action scene or...thirty. And if you needed anymore confirmation, just go and check him out in Brassic, showing he's got the whole 'tortured soul' business nailed down too. He's your man, trust us.
