10 Great Films You Can't Admit You Love (And Why)
7. The Jackass Trilogy
At it's greatest, cinema has the power to transcend, to elevate audiences to a higher plain of truth and beauty. When we talk about great cinema so often do we talk about insanely talented directors, people like Hitchcock or Kubrick, who capture the essence of what it means to be human.
What's also human is laughing your ass off at completely dumb sh*t. And that's where the Jackass trilogy comes in. The Jackass trilogy doesn't try to tell you a gripping narrative or to send shivers of catharsis down your spine. All it wants to do is make you laugh and make you gag. It wears its intentions brazenly on its sleeve.
In that way, it's a total success, a brilliant reality comedy with likeable characters and a host of cringe-inducing stunts. The problem with admitting with sincerity how much you love Jackass is that so many people consider it "low" comedy, repulsive and unsophisticated. Want people to think you're completely unintelligent? Just start talking about Jackass.
Hell, if people are allowed to enjoy action blockbusters, what's wrong with enjoying Jackass? The Jackass films are the blockbusters of the comedy world.
