10 Great Ghost Movies (No One Ever Talks About)

9. 100 Feet

The Frighteners
SyFy

A whole lot of horror fans rave about the superb 1987 vampire horror Near Dark, and 100 Feet is a similarly underrated success from the film's writer, Eric Red.

Long before James Wan reinvented the Invisible Man as a gaslighting, abusive metaphor for domestic violence, this intense 2008 horror saw Famke Janssen star as a troubled woman placed under house arrest for the murder of her husband.

Only said murder was in self defence, and said husband has no plans to stay dead. This results in a chilling and ingenious horror which traps Janssen under house arrest inside her cramped apartment with the unseen monstrous entity her undead husband has become.

Minor spoilers here, but Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick appears in a small cameo and earns an unforgettable death as the ghost beats him so brutally the resultant blood makes his see-through spirit form visible again. It's a gruesome, clever touch in a film filled with them.

This gripping and intense horror deserved better than its poor showing with critics and straight to video ignominy.
