Well, the kindest thing you can say about it is that it's from the makers of Stir of Echoes.
Okay, so their reunion may have fallen flat earlier this year, but there's a reason expectations were set so high. Stir of Echoes was an under the radar hit which deserved far more love when it was released in 1999.
Admittedly horror film fans will have no trouble discerning why this one was overlooked given its release date, as it was overshadowed the Bruce Willis mega hit The Sixth Sense which is also (spoilers) a ghost movie
But this underrated Bacon vehicle is a more chilling, bleak, and brutally effective breed of thriller than that sentimental shocker. Following Bacon's phone operator as he begins suffering terrifying visions after being put under hypnosis, the film sees him uncover an unsettling, harrowing horror story.
The ghostly visitations are chilling, and the film's poignant plot is a credit to the source novel's original author Richard Matheson.
