10 Great Ghost Movies (No One Ever Talks About)

6. House

The Frighteners
New World Pictures

Released in 1986, House is a largely and undeservedly forgotten haunted house film from the creator of Friday the 13th part three and the underrated creature feature Lake Placid.

And much like that later monster movie, this one should be cropping up on far more horror comedy "best of" rundowns than it does.

This goofy eighties horror comedy has all the gory gross out excess and charming character comedy the sub genre is famous for, along with a likeable hero and an engaging story.

The film sees a horror novelist haunted by his time in Vietnam trying to return to his childhood home for some peace and tranquility... Only to promptly be haunted by the assorted monsters and beautifully realised practical effects ghouls that his once peaceful home is now inundated with.

Funny, gross, and often surprisingly suspenseful and scary, this one calls to mind the kind of work brought out by Miner's contemporaries Fred Dekker, Joe Dante, and Brian Yuzna—gory tongue in cheese horror comedies that will leave you laughing and screaming in equal measure.
